Akemashite Omedeto Gozaimasu...

108 strikes as the New Year approaches
The rampant hypocrisy of Christmas drives me nuts each year, all that false jolliness and being good to your fellow man no doubt makes a lot of people feel better about themselves, but for me, it only goes to illustrate the shallowness of  society and how easily some folk convince themselves they are, deep down, "really nice people". Being a decent human being, like being an authentic karateka, is not a hobby....either you are or you're not!

As the present year draws to a close and the new year is about to begin, now is as good a time as any to take stock, to account for the things you could have done differently and reaffirm your desire to do better in future. Sincerity is a word much used in relation to karate, although reality indicates it is a concept spoken of much more than put in to practise; still, you can't change the world, but you can change 'your' world...if you have the character to do so.

When the clock strikes midnight on Tuesday night, instead of the usual mindless antics that the herd engage in, as a karateka, why not (if you're awake) find a quiet corner to practise your kata; why not, just this once, be 'present' as you cross the threshold into a new year. Instead of all the empty (headed) noise and din, why not take notice of your life as it is unfolding.

Regardless....however you choose to spend the final moments of Tuesday night, be safe.
